On Earth Day in April, millions
of people look for something meaningful to do for the environment. In San
Diego, more than 70,000 people are expected to attend San Diego Earth Day's
ninth annual EarthFair in Balboa Park on Sunday, April 19, 1998 from 10am
- 5pm.
Featuring an estimated 270 educational
exhibits and seven stages of entertainment, the EarthFair is the largest
free environmental event in California. Over 400 volunteers produce the
EarthFair, managing the Earth Parade, parking bicycles, setting up exhibits,
answering phones and separating recyclables.
Volunteers are needed before the EarthFair,
too. Current projects for 1998 include: the EARTH (Environmental Action
and Restoration That Helps) Awards, the VIP (Very Important Planet) Reception,
a silent auction, and Habitat Restoration Projects throughout the county.
San Diego EarthWorks is a year-round,
volunteer-run non-profit organization dedicated to a clean, healthy and
prosperous future. Events throughout the year encourage people to take individual
action for the future. For more information on San Diego EarthWorks or Earth
Day activities, to volunteer, or to receive exhibitor or sponsorship information,
