ach and every one of us has the power to make a positive difference in our local environment. A few people even go above and beyond general concern in their efforts. San Diego EarthWork's third annual EARTH (Environmental Action & Restoration That Helps) Awards ceremony recognizes and celebrates people who are working to create a better future.

Nominations for the 1998 EARTH Awards are now being accepted by San Diego EarthWorks. Organizations and individuals interested in submitting nominations for an EARTH award should contact Robert Nanninga at (619) 496-6666 before March 16, 1998. Award winners will be announced on April 2, 1998, and be presented at the VIP (Very Important Planet) reception April 22, 1998. This year's event will be at the Ridgehaven Green Building in Kearny Mesa.

Last year's award winners included: American Formulating & Manufacturing for the development of environmentally safe building and maintenance products; Ocean Beach People's Natural Food Markets for providing organic food and promoting a healthy community; and Progressive Design for its commitment to 100 percent recycled playground equipment. The Youth Category winner was the San Pasqual Union Butterfly Club. There were also eight honorable mentions awarded. Each winner has addressed a problem and found a winning solution that works to create a healthier environment while creating less impact on our planet.
