n honor of Earth Day and “Earth Month”, I Love A Clean San Diego (ILACSD) is seeking volunteers to celebrate with them at the 4th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup on Saturday, April 29th from 9am to Noon. The countywide cleanup is presented by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors through the support of Supervisors Greg Cox and Pam Slater-Price. Volunteers will be able to choose from over 40 coastal and inland sites throughout San Diego County, making it easy for everyone to get involved.

The Creek to Bay Cleanup offers a unique opportunity to bring together families, co-workers, students, and youth and adult service organizations to protect our coastal and inland areas and the sensitive habitats that surround them. ILACSD has had tremendous success with this event over the past 3 years. Combined, nearly 7,000 volunteers have joined in to remove over 300,000 pounds of trash and recyclables covering 223 miles of San Diego's coastal and inland shorelines.

Flush with debris

“Relatively speaking, at this time of year San Diego County often experiences a large amount of rain, flushing unknown quantities of trash and pollutants into our waterways,” said Derek D. Turbide, executive director for I Love A Clean San Diego. “The Creek to Bay Cleanup provides a chance for community members to come together and remove some of that debris that ends up in and around our waterways.”

ILACSD has several exciting things planned for this year's event such as free tee shirts for participants, contests and raffles at certain locations and an appearance by its Clean Water Ambassador, Captain Wetiquette at ILACSD's “cleanup central” at Coronado's Silver Strand State Beach. Event supplies, including bags, gloves and refreshments, will be provided.
