The EPA and DOE selected Kinko's for its role in significantly advancing the development of renewable energy sources by procuring a considerable percentage of environmentally friendly electricity and helping to reduce the emissions associated with conventional electricity generation, the nation's largest source of air pollution. Sue Parks, Kinko's executive vice president of operations, accepted the award on behalf of Kinko's. “Being recognized as Green Power Partner of the Year by the EPA and DOE is a tremendous honor,” said Parks. “At Kinko's, protecting the environment is a top priority in order to ensure a sustainable future for our business and our communities. I am extremely proud of our team members for their dedication and hope that our successes will inspire other companies to work toward similar goals.” This is the second year Kinko's has been recognized by the EPA and DOE with a green power award. Last year, Kinko's received the award for Renewable Energy Purchasing. Reducing the company's impact on the environment is natural for Kinko's, which was founded in 1970 – the same year as the first Earth Day celebration was held. In 1997, Kinko's adopted an Environmental Vision Statement that identifies the environmental performance targets the company aims for as it serves customers. Ninety-three – or nearly 10 percent – of Kinko's US locations now purchase green power, including 13 locations powered entirely by renewable energy. Kinko's currently buys renewable energy in 13 states, including Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Washington. The company has grown its annual green power commitment to approximately 7.7 million kilowatt hours per year. This is equivalent to the power used by more than 750 US households for an entire year. Kinko's renewable power is drawn from a wide variety of sources, including wind, geothermal, landfill gas, solar and small hydro. In addition to buying renewable energy, the company's efforts to reduce its environmental footprint include reducing energy use, offering recycled and alternative papers and minimizing waste. |

The honor, which Kinko's shares with the City of Chicago, was awarded during the Second Annual Green Power Leadership Award ceremony in Washington, D.C.
